UVA’s outreach programs are designed to:
• Bring our resources to people in the communities we serve
• Provide vital health information
• Support people as they try to lead healthier lives
The Office of Community Relations, Outreach, and Service does this by working closely with community organizations like the Charlottesville Free Clinic, Habitat for Humanity and the Lenowisco Health Department.
Remote Area Medical Clinic
This year, we sent 260 volunteers with expertise in family medicine and carefully selected medical specialties to the annual Remote Area Medical Clinic (RAM) in Wise.
Recycling Unused Medical Supplies
Health care facilities produce a diverse and overwhelming amount of waste - over 6,000 tons of waste per day.
Through our MERCI (Medical Equipment Recovery of Clean Inventory) Program, UVA is making sure unused medical supplies go to humanitarian organizations in the area and around the world.
